Spot the symptom before you pick a fix
A blank result usually means the file is an image-only scan, is damaged, or stores its text in a way the parser cannot read. Scrambled output points to a reading-order problem. Missing section labels can mean the labels are just decoration, have unusual names, or sit apart from the main text.
Treat the first mismatch you spot as your clue. If you change fonts, wording, file type, and layout all at once, you will not know which change actually helped.
Common reasons text goes missing or moves
A parser works from the structure hidden inside your document. The page you see is only one view of that structure, so how it looks is not enough to prove it can be read.
- A scanned PDF holds pictures of words instead of real, selectable text.
- Columns, sidebars, or tables can store a reading order that differs from the order your eyes follow.
- Contact details or dates sit in page headers, footers, shapes, or floating text boxes.
- Icons stand in for text labels such as Email, Phone, or Location.
- Custom section names do not line up clearly with Experience, Education, Skills, or Projects.
Fix the file one change at a time
Go back to the editable source file instead of converting an already-exported PDF again and again. Move key content into the main body, keep a clear top-to-bottom order, swap any meaning-carrying icons for text, and save a fresh text-based PDF.
After each real change, run the same parser test again. Keep the simplest version that holds all your content and still reads well to a person.
Limitations of this guidance
These boundaries matter when interpreting the controlled test.
- The ResuPulse test shows how ResuPulse reads your file, not how every employer parser will.
- It does not run text recognition (OCR) on image-only PDFs.
- Readable text does not prove your resume is relevant, that you are qualified, or that the writing is strong.
- A missing heading can simply mean the label is unusual, not that the content behind it is gone.

Why can I copy some text even when the parser output is incomplete?
Text you can select may still carry a reading order or grouping that differs from what you see on the page. Compare whole sections instead of trusting one line you managed to copy.
Should I rebuild the entire resume right away?
Usually not. Find the first mismatch, simplify just that part, and test again. A small, focused change is easier to check than a full redesign.
Does a clean result mean every ATS will parse it?
No. It only confirms that this parser read the file you tested. Employers can run different software, versions, settings, and steps.
